MAYOR  JENNINGS ANNOUNCES ALBANY’S
PLANS FOR RECYCLING NYS LICENSE PLATES

Over the course of the next two years, the New York StateDepartment of Motor Vehicles will be mailing new license plates to everyone in New York State when they renew their registrations.  That Department has notified all municipalities that they will be responsible for the collection and disposal of the old license plates.  We are asking for the cooperation of our residents in disposing of the old license plates properly since individuals will be responsible for any traffic or parking tickets written against their old plate number.

The City of Albany’s recycling facility cannot accept the plates and we must collect them separately from other recyclables.  Therefore, the City will place blue recycling bins for license plate collection at each location that distributes compost bags.  We ask that residents bring their old license plates to one of the nine distribution sites throughout the City.  Those nine sites are as follows:

Department of General Services, 1 Conners Blvd.
                       CapitalHills at Albany Golf Course
                       Bleecker Stadium
                       Westland Hills Park
Louise Corning Senior Citizens Center , 25 Delaware Avenue
Department of Youth & Recreation, 7 Hoffman Avenue
St. Vincent’s Community Center, Madison Avenue
                       City Treasurer’s Office, City Hall
City of Albany Rapp Road Landfill, 525 Rapp Road

Mayor Jennings said, “I greatly appreciate the cooperation of residents in helping the City recycle the old license plates properly.  I have no doubt that Albany will have one of the most successful license collection programs in the State.”

For further information or details on the program, please contact Frank Zeoli, Department of General Services, at 434-2489.
